Mahindra Xylo at 6.2 Lakhs: The Innova challenger and another innovation
Ingenio is here ! or Xylo as the company calls it, ’cause they like the movie “The Mask” and the dog in it. With Xylo, Mahindra hopes to take on the Toyota Innova which has been stealing customers from its Scorpio alternative since it started life. Although, its the brand and overall performance & economy, the reasons which got Innova such success, there is a chance, people think, of it being a MUV style played a important place. Well, I don’t . How many of you liked the Innova when you first saw it ? Its when it showed up everywhere you look on the streets and people talking great about it, its then you felt the style of it.
Xylo which is more of a MUV style rather than a SUV like Scoprio, which should help Mahindra take customers from Innova and keep the Scorpio territory safe. Win Win formula ? Well, lets see. Powerful Diesel Engine, Great Economy, Seating comfort, it has got everything an indian looks in an MUV. Even priced below scorpio range.
Xylo comes with a 2.5-litre CRDe (common rail diesel engine) like in the Scorpio, but it will also, in due course of time, get a petrol engine for its export avatar.
Mahindra plans to launch a mass-market light-cargo product also that will take on Tata Ace. In 2010, it will roll out its global SUV product which will spearhead M&M’s export thrust as well as be a crucial domestic launch. Xylo, packs in a number of bells and whistles like the flat bed, tray tables, individual AC vents, power steering, power window and central locking even in the base variant, priced at Rs 6.24 lakh.
The company Says, “The Xylo is just Rs 40,000 more expensive than Swift Dzire, so we’re looking to re-invent the sedan space.” Yeah, they wish. But stonger I wish to disagree that Xylo won’t steal sedan market, I know deep inside me that there are people who don’t have a clear Idea, if they need a MUV or Sedan. Both are different people ! Very much different.
Mahindra XYLO has been completely engineered around the customer and has a powerful 2.49 litre mEagle CRDe engine which is fuel-efficient and delivers 112 bhp, allowing you to literally fly from 0-60 kmph in just 5.8 seconds. Moreover, it offers class-defining lavish space all around such that even a 6ft tall person can stretch in comfort on the 3rd row seat. The XYLO offers an extraordinary level of luxurious comfort at a very cost-effective price for prospective sedan buyers
Xylo has potential. It has theDigital Drive Assist System (DDAS). An alphanumeric display in the centre panel, the DDAS has features such as an onboard computer to calculate mileage and distance permissible, which we usually see in a merc or a beemer. It also tells time and date, inside and outside temperature and relative humidity. If you have neck problems and can’t look down to the gear shift, a press of a button will inform you your gear position and speed. The DDAS will also tell you how long your fuel will last and share information on your average speed and the instant mileage clocked by you. The DDAS also has an inbuilt warning system for seat belts and handbrake engaged drive. The Intellipark Reverse Assist has a visual prompt in the rear view mirror which shows you the distance between the rear bumper and any object behind your car. The 2 Din Entertainment System plays MP3s and CDs, SD cards and USB devices.
The driver’s seat is ergonomically designed with height adjustment control to maximize comfort on long drives. Lumbar support can also be adjusted to three positions while the unique tiltable steering wheel gives you the perfect driving position. An illuminated keyhole ring allows you to conveniently locate the keyhole even in pitch dark conditions. Utility spaces abound in the Mahindra XYLO with a well defined Centre Console.
