Chevrolet launches Chevy Aveo u-VA to take on Getz and Swift

The much awaited u-VA is finally here. General Motors, launched its new 5-door hatchback to compete with the Maruti-Suzuki Swift and Hyundai Getz. Even though the launch was delayed, there is explanation, Just when General Motors was about to launch the first Chevy hatchback in India, our Finance Minister announced tax benefits for small cars. That meant ditching the Aveo’s 1.4 motor and plonking a 1.2 litre petrol instead, a process that took six months. This is the daewoo Kalos with a Chevy badge, also known as Aveo5 in some countries.
In India, Aveo u-VA has stiff competition from the Swift and to lesser extent from the Getz. Unlike the Swift, the U-VA has similar proportions to the Getz but it’s the largest car of the lot with a particularly long wheelbase of 2480mm. The interior is bright and spacious.
The all round glass area is quite generous. However, the interiors are let down by dull grey plastics which don’t particularly look and feel upmarket. Still, The well-finished centre console and the mock carbonfibre trim on the inside of the door handles and around the power window switches of high quality. The steering wheel feels like the Optra 1.6. The air Conditioner cools cabin quickly, GM India has worked on the air con and blower to improve cooling and it shows.

Thanks.
Comment by Abhishek February 22nd, 2007 at 4:16 pmI don’t think they would be. There are only few cars i’ve seen giving out coupes in India. The last maruti zen gave out only because suzuki used to assemble it in Gurgaon. So some very few lucky indians got these.
