Bavina : The new four seated electric car to hit Indian roads
An Indian company Bavina industries, is all set to launch its four-door electric car. The car looks more like a mixed up version of the Old Hyundai Santro and Daewoo Matiz. Its been few years since “Maini” launced its 2 seater electric version but could not have much luck with its efficient but expensive model, Maini Reva.
The fully-loaded version of the Bavina car will cost around Rs.2.5 lakh and will boast facilities including AC, power window and centralized locking, like any other small, premium hatch-back. The fully-charged car would run for 110 km with AC switched on and another 20 kms without AC. It reaches maximum speed of 55 kmph and can be limited to 40km/h .
Parts of the vehicle like electric motor, body shell, battery and charger would be imported initially from China. The company would be assembling the parts at its Chennai city facility and by January 2009, the company would set up its own production unit at Marakkanam, about 100 km from Chennai. At first the company would roll out 5,000 cars per year and the numbers would gradually go up. By the end of 2009, the ‘eco-fridendly taxi’ first in Delhi and Chennai on August 15, these taxis could be seen in all the major cities of South India, including, Bangalore, Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Hyderabad.
The six lead-acid batteries in the car would last up to 65,000 kms or a minimum of one-and-a-half years, he said. The replacement cost could be around Rs 21,000. This would come down to Rs 12,000 when the company introduces a three-battery version within two years.

Comment by Krishna December 19th, 2007 at 11:39 amVery much thrilled to go through the splendent discovery. This is a remarkable step in the wake of global economic instability as well as increasing petrol costs. Till recently, the concept of electric car has not been familiar in the world barring a few countries. Due to emergence of Global warming on account of emission of CO2 gases as well as roof level gasoline prices, we need to gear up ourselves to idenity a suitable renewable energy/alternative cheap fuel.
Suggestions
As solar energy is available in plenty ,the concept of electric energy and solar energy may be integrated to make the proposition more effective. Especially in countries like India, solar energy would definitely find its acceptability among the masses as it economises to a very great extent upon the running cost. Moreover, the cost of maintenance of the car would come to the bearest minimum as electric grid would replace gasoline engine and gear mechanism.

Comment by rinku January 1st, 2008 at 11:43 amYou may consider also the recharging of the battery during the running of the car.wind energy can be expoited to do the same while the car is in movement by installing a fan with belt drive in the front to work like a dynamo.Applying some engineering this can be useful to increase the range of the car.Solar charging of battery could also be an option. The exterior needs to be more futuristic and sleek to motivate customers.
