The all new TATA Indica Vista
TATA took an important decision to roll out the new Indica model, VISTA amidst the ongoing impasse over Tata Motors ‘ Nano” project at Singur at price ranging from Rs 3.5 lakh to Rs 4.90 lakh. Available in seven colours (Arctic Siler, Cavern Grey, Gala Red, Infinity Black, Marine Silver, Noble Blue, Solar Orange) the 1.2L petrol Safire will cost the customer Rs 3.5 lakh, while 1.3L Quadrajet is priced at Rs 4.90 lakh.
Tata Indica, when launched 10 years ago, was the first “true” Indian hatch. It has come a long way since but the recent auto expo showed us a new version, not just mere face lifts but more powerful engines, bigger, better interiors and improved quality. The new Indica Vista sports dynamic and flowing lines which distinguishes it from the previous generation Indica. Except for the name and the layout everything seems different. If the new sweeping headlamp cluster fails to catch your attention, then the chrome handles is sure to catch everyone’s eye.
The new car would be produced at the Fiat-Tata plant at Ranjangaon near Pune, which has an annual production capacity of two lakh units. Indica Vista would replace seven out of the 14 variants of the existing Indica adding Tata Motors had invested Rs 1,700 crore over the last four years for developing the new car.

Suzuki A-Star : The New Maruti-Suzuki Alto this Diwali
Maruti Suzuki needs a new warhorse against the new Hyundai i10 and they have been planning this for quite some time now and is all set to release as the Alto successor by Diwali this year which is in October-November. Though this won’t actually replace the existing model, whose production will continue till 2010. This is the first time Suzuki will make a car only in India and will export around the world. Nissan has worked out on some kind of deal with Suzuki for for 50,000 units every year.

About the A-star
This new generation Alto will have the same 2360mm wheelbase of the existing Alto, Zen Estilo & WagonR but will be wider and longer. The A-star, like the i10, is designed and developed to meet the global safety and emission standards. As you can see in the images, unusually enough, the production car will look more like the concept car.
According to company sources, the A-star was simply created by the Maruti engineers to showcase their capabilities at the Auto Expo and not as reflection of what its future models would look like.

We have crossed three lakh units since inception in India. To commemorate this achievement, we are launching a sports variant of sedan Civic. The sports Civic will be of limited edition
Currently, the Civic is priced between Rs 11 lakh and Rs 12.86 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi)
Till date HSCI has made an investment of Rs 1,620 crore with a further investment of Rs 1,000 crore being pumped in for setting up its second plant in Rajasthan, from where it will roll-out its compact car. The company has a current production capacity of manufacturing 100,000 cars.
Toyota to launch its hybrid sedan, Toyota Prius in India
Toyota has now confirmed that they are most certainly going to launch their Prius model in the Indian market in the coming years, making it the second hybrid car in India, first being the Honda Civic hybrid.
Toyota Kirloskar:
We are preparing to bring Prius into the Indian market though we have not set any timeline yet. In the run-up, we have to develop skills to service it and make spare parts available across the country. In the long-run, it is economical, with higher mileage and lower maintenance cost. We are confident of its acceptability in the Indian market as it runs both on electricity and fuel.
According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, the 2008 Prius is the most fuel efficient car sold in the U.S. and according to the UK Department for Transport, the Prius is tied as the third least CO2-emitting vehicle on sale in the UK, and there are eight cars which are more fuel-efficient than it for the combined use cycle.
The Toyota Prius
The Prius is completely redesigned into a mid-size liftback which is between the Corolla and the Camry in size. The new Hybrid Synergy Drive (HSD) uses an all-electric compressor for cooling. Air conditioning is operated independently of the gasoline engine, an industry first. The Prius is the most fuel efficient car that Consumer Reports has tested giving a real-world fuel consumption of 5.35 L/100 km. The Prius’ onboard GPS navigation system (as well as other models, such as the Lexus, which use the same technology) is designed so that destinations cannot be entered while the vehicle is in motion. According to the owner’s manual, this is done for the driver’s own safety
The safety features include, Driver and front-passenger Advanced Airbag System, Driver and front-passenger front seat-mounted side airbags and front to rear side curtain airbags, Anti-Lock Brakes (ABS) with Electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist, Traction Control (TRAC), Engine immobilizer, Rear-seat Child Restraint System (CRS) lower anchors and top tether brackets (LATCH), 3-point front outboard seatbelts, Front seatbelt pretensioners with force limiters
The car that gives 200km/L : GARUDA, Project RVCE Supermileage
Imagine a car that gives 200km/L. The students of the mechanical engineering department of Rashtriya Vidyalalya College of Engineering have designed and built a super fuel-efficient car which they claim addresses issues such as oil crisis, environmental pollution and need for green technologies. This is their first step towards eventual participation in the SAE Supermileage International Competition in the US and Shell Eco-Marathon, in the UK.
Team leader, Nishant, says
There were a lot of changes, right from the engine, tires, chassis and body. We kept making constant improvements to the design of the car to make it more aerodynamic. The idea is to achieve 500 kms/litre, and they intend to do this in the coming year. But it is not just mileage that the team has focussed on. Members say various innovations have come out of research they have done on the car.
It has not been only innovation and engineering all the way. Apart from missing classes and campus placements, there also has been the need for funding, engineering and design software. Companies like Tantra Infosolutions, CD Adapco and Chameleon Motors have helped.
More work will be done on the car to make it more fuel efficient. The team will take part in the Shell-Eco Marathon (UK) next year.
The Garuda
Its a very lightweight, streamlined and has a nice aerodynamic shape. Its height is very low because of the aerodynamic constraints. The total project expenditure would be between Rs3.5 lakh to Rs4 lakh. car runs on petrol, ISO 10 pure petrol. It can also run on kerosene. It depends on the engine, and this engine can run on both. As per the team, The Garuda was built out of a passion to do something different in the automotive sector.
