Maruti’s 1 Lakh car : Suzuki Cervo

Maruti's 1 Lakh car : Suzuki CervoMaruti-Suzuki has been denying the fact that its looking forward to compete with TATA motors on the Nano project. But it seems they have changed their mind, considering the fact that competitors are giving out better vehicles. They recently organized a rural car fair in Singur smack in the heart of TATA Nano’s national production base. The idea was to simply put on show the company’s vast product portfolio and shell out the good deals to hook buyers picking up on the strong loyalty base it has built up over the past few decades. Interestingly, In the three day fair, Maruti-Suzuki sold 20 cars.

Maruti now has felt the need to change the 800 model which started life back in some 18`th century or so. So they are planning to replace it by Suzuki Cervo, which is powered by a 660cc engine offering 54 bhp. Its turbo-charged variant offers 60 bhp, more power than the Alto and the Maruti 800 and nearly the same as Wagon R”s 64 bhp. Cervo meets Japan”s 4-star emission standards and exceeds the 2010 fuel economy standards by about 10%.

TATA’s Rs 1-lakh car, scheduled to hit the market by 2008-end, if Maruti goes forward with the plan. The other flank will be the new 660cc small car being developed at Suzuki”s headquarters in Hamamatsu, Japan. The new Maruti 800 will be on the existing platform but would sport a more contemporary look, entirely different from the current product. Both cars are likely to be priced aggressively against Tata Nano.

Suzuki’s car shall be more fuel efficient than any other car in the segment. M800 is also the most fuel efficient car in India offering mileage of 18-20 km per litre.

Mahindra and Mahindra’s CNG pick-up : Bolero Pik Up at Rs 5.42 lakh

Mahindra and Mahindra's CNG pick-up : Bolero Pik Up at Rs 5.42 lakh
As an addon to its Clean fuel (CNG) range of 3 wheeler cargo vehicles, Mahindra introduced an alternative fuel-based vehicle in the category, no, not the 3 wheeler, in the “cargo vehicles” segment. M&M has launched CNG pick-up cargo variant of its utility vehicle, Bolero Pik Up Priced at Rs 5.42 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), the Bolero Pik-Up would have the pay-load capacity of 1-1.5 tonne. M&M stated the operating cost of the vehicle would be 40 per cent lower compared with a diesel vehicle and could run almost up to 300 km without a refill. Besides that, its 75 bhp engine providing superior pulling power in loaded conditions.
Currently, Mahindra has a CNG cargo on its three-wheelers — Alfa in the small cargo category, and Champion in the larger segment.

M&M says

Availability of CNG is a big issue. There is a big market for such vehicles. However, the Government on its part has to roll out more CNG stations in the existing cities as well as set up the network in the new cities. In Pakistan, about 80 per cent of passenger vehicles run on CNG and this can happen in India also.

They should also give some concession on tax for Hybrid vehicles, considering the fact that they are doing a huge favour to the government which rarely thinks about pollution.

New Hyundai i10 with 1.2L kappa engine

New Hyundai i10 with 1.2L kappa engine So why so soon ? Why a new engine so soon when the segment car makers used to do just a mere face-lift once a year or two ?
Well, I think its the cheap car trend started by the companies competing to make more cheaper cars. But Indian consumers just don’t look for pocket friendly prices, they need everything, the good looks, the power, the comfort, the luxury but all within the budget. Hyundai understand this needs and acts intelligently, they debuted the i10 in India it again took Hyundai on top of sales charts. They also understand the fact that it won’t last long considering the new models about to come in coming months. So that’s why they brought kappa. (Hello kappa!)

The 1.2L Kappa i10’s in-line, four-cylinder, 1.2 litre engine while adding to the power will also deliver greater operational efficiency in terms of both fuel consumption and emissions. It will come in three variants - the Magna, Sportz and Asta. The i10 Kappa Sportz will be the top-end model, with sunroof, great interiors, and a bodykit. The 1.2L will also have an automatic transmission version. The car offers 81 bhp and will have a 0-100 kmph figure of 12-13 seconds and a top speed of around 165 kmph.Price for the 1.2L Kappa versions of the i10 will be between Rs 3.89 lakhs and 5.43 lakh (on-road Mumbai) .The 1.1L engine will still go under the hoods of the Era and D-Lite, but the new variants, the Magna, the Sportz and the Asta will have the Kappa motor. The Asta with sunroof is the top-end variant, at Rs 5.43 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi.

The launch of the new Kappa engine coincides with the inauguration of the engine and transmission plant at Sriperumbudur which will produce the brand new Kappa engine to be fitted first in the i10 meant both for the domestic and the export market.

Efficiencies in fuel consumption and environment are the prerogatives for any automobile manufacturer. And Hyundai, as a conscientious global corporate citizen, prioritises these with continuous innovation in technology and design. Our new Kappa engine is the best in class today, with more power, less fuel consumption and a lower CO2 and overall emissions. The current 1.1L engine has proved to be one of the very successful engines for Hyundai and it will continue to power both the Santro and the i10, but the new Kappa engine will significantly raise the bar in this segment and redefine the expectation from this class of cars.

TVS Motors launch the advanced version of Apache

TVS Motors unveiled the advanced version of its bike ‘Apache’ which is a move aimed at consolidating its position in the premium segment called the “Apache RTR FI”.

The worst is over for bikes as the industry has started gaining momentum at about 10-15 per cent after last year’s slump

Cycling and wrong bike can make imponent

Cycling can make men impotent, scientists have warned. Spending too long in the saddle blocks blood flow, causes numbness and can jeopardise riders’ sex lives, according to the research in the UK. “There is no longer a question of whether or not riding on a saddle causes erectile dysfunction,” said Steve Schrader, of the U.S. National Institute of Occupational Safety.

According to Indian-origin researcher Vinod Nargund of St Bartholomew’s and Homerton Hospitals in London,

The problems to look out for include genital numbness, erection problems, skin irritations and soreness in the groin area. More than 60 per cent of male cyclists who have taken part in research studies have reported genital numbness. Numbness is common because the pressure of the saddle can impair the blood supply to this area and put pressure on the nerves in the penis. This can also affect a man’s ability to get an erection. There is a greater incidence of numbness and erectile problems in men who cycle regularly and over longer training distances. That is why it is important to rest intermittently during prolonged and vigorous cycling.

The bicycle saddle is in direct contact with the perineum and its underlying structures. It makes contact just behind the scrotum where the nerves and blood vessels enter the back of the scrotum and penis. This area is sensitive, with hair follicles and sweat and sebaceous glands, which are all good breeding grounds for infection. Abrasions, bruising and damaged hair follicles and are among the most traumatic cycling injuries. Sweating in this area can also cause soreness and skin problems. So, choosing the right bike is essential. The male cyclist should know his bicycle well and a proper fit is particularly important for high-performance cycling. The level of pedal resistance is also very important, because riding a bike using too much resistance is a cause of health problems

Men who cycle a lot can also experience changes to their sperm function, because of the excessive heat generated in the pelvic area. Regular cyclists can run a higher risk of testicular damage and impaired testicular function also. Mountain bikers run a particular risk as studies have shown that they exhibit higher levels of scrotal abnormalities than on-road cyclists.

Experts say the safest seats make the rider sit back firmly, shifting their weight onto the bottom of the pelvis. Casual cyclists had nothing to worry about, the researchers all agreed.
