Bavina : The new four seated electric car to hit Indian roads

Bavina Cars LogoAn Indian company Bavina industries, is all set to launch its four-door electric car. The car looks more like a mixed up version of the Old Hyundai Santro and Daewoo Matiz. Its been few years since “Maini” launced its 2 seater electric version but could not have much luck with its efficient but expensive model, Maini Reva.
The fully-loaded version of the Bavina car will cost around Rs.2.5 lakh and will boast facilities including AC, power window and centralized locking, like any other small, premium hatch-back. The fully-charged car would run for 110 km with AC switched on and another 20 kms without AC. It reaches maximum speed of 55 kmph and can be limited to 40km/h .

Parts of the vehicle like electric motor, body shell, battery and charger would be imported initially from China. The company would be assembling the parts at its Chennai city facility and by January 2009, the company would set up its own production unit at Marakkanam, about 100 km from Chennai. At first the company would roll out 5,000 cars per year and the numbers would gradually go up. By the end of 2009, the ‘eco-fridendly taxi’ first in Delhi and Chennai on August 15, these taxis could be seen in all the major cities of South India, including, Bangalore, Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Hyderabad.

The six lead-acid batteries in the car would last up to 65,000 kms or a minimum of one-and-a-half years, he said. The replacement cost could be around Rs 21,000. This would come down to Rs 12,000 when the company introduces a three-battery version within two years. Read more

YAMAHA Launches Sports Bikes MT01 and 998cc YZF R1 in India starting at 10.5 lakhs : Review, Specifications

Yamaha YZF-R1 SPYamaha launched two of its premium bikes MTR01 and 998cc YZF R1. Both the bikes have been priced at Rs 10.5 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Both bikes would be imported as completely-built-units into India and with price tags of Rs 10.50 lakh, making them the most expensive offerings for Indian customers from Yamaha.

The company is initially offering these bikes in Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai and Ahmedabad.

When introduced, it took the entire class closer to a true racing motorcycle with its dramatic acceleration, braking and superior handling capabilities.

- We are looking at re-establishing the Yamaha brand in the country. We are therefore looking at fresh products targeted at the niche segment with better technology.
- We would look at niche segments and would be launching some fresh products at the Auto Expo in January 2008.
- We are in the process of getting approvals for the Rs 1,000crore investment earmarked to us.
- Initially we will sell these sport bikes from Ahmedabad, Chennai, New Delhi and Bangalore as we are looking at setting up an after-sales service infrastructure.
-We sold about 2.35 lakh units last year and we expect it to dip to 1.8 lakh units this year. This is also because of the negative growth the industry is witnessing.

Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) launched a customized version of its utility vehicle `Scorpio` called “Scorpio First” the at the Autocar Performance Show in Mumbai. The customized version looks pretty much like a DC design inside and gives you the Limo feel with a motorized a coffee maker, sofa arrangement, a bar, private area divided by motor-operated glass partition, a DVD cinema and audio system with LCD screen supported by speakers, a play station and a walkie talkie unit for giving the chauffeur directions. “First” is specially designed and built in partnership with renowned automobile designer DILIP CHHABRIA.

Maruti SuzukiTATA’s much awaited 1 lakh car is not the only one that plans to show up in forthcoming Auto Expo in New Delhi. Concept A-Star, developed jointly by Maruti Suzuki and Suzuki Motor Corporation is expected to find its way into Indian markets in the coming months, possibly by the end of 2008.

The vehicle is a precursor to Maruti Suzuki’s global compact car that will be manufactured at the Manesar plant for export to Europe. With a 5-year capital investment of $ 2.2 billion in a new car plant, a diesel engine manufacturing unit, a new engine series and new models, Maruti Suzuki is emerging as a global manufacturing hub for Suzuki operations worldwide.

Honda to set up $250 mn car unit : Honda Jazz and Civic hybrid coming

Honda Cars to bring up 1.2 litre petrol : Planting their Second plant in IndiaJapanese automobile giant Honda is setting up its second car manufacturing unit in Rajasthan at an investment of Rs 10 billion with a capacity to produce 60,000 units in the first phase.
