Mahindra M&M, Nissan and Renault to start together in TN
Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) appears to have finally zeroed in on Tamil Nadu to set up a three-way joint venture car plant with Nissan and Renault. Top Executives from M&M are likely hold talks with the officials of state Gov. soon to firm up the finer details of the car project.
According sources M&M would be the lead partner in the joint venture.
Now M&M seems to like the joint venturing a lot, When Ford India set up its car facility at Maraimalainagar some eyars ago, it came in with M&M as its partner. Both have since come out of their crossholding in each other. Chennai has seen Hyundai of South Korea and Ford of the U.S set up production facilities in its vicinity. BMW of Germany is readying to roll out its first batch of cars from its upcoming assembly line near Maraimalainagar. The entry of M&M will further give a fillip to the growth of the auto components industry in this region.
Ford India rolls out new Fiesta 1.4 ZXI
Ford India launched a variant of its sedan Fiesta, one of the siz planned by the company to boost its mid-size car sales. Launching the 1.4 litre petrol ZXI version, Ford India VC told that the variant was ideally suited for city driving. The company planned to introduce the car in three petrol and three diesel versions. The car would cost Rs 6.30 lakh (ex-showroom Chennai). As per Ford India, the model, specific to Indian road conditions, has been developed after feedback from customers. Of the 42,000 cars sold last year, Fiesta’s share is over 17% .With introduction of the new model sales are likely to up.
The new model will feature
- 1.4 petrol 16V DOHC (double overhead camshaft)
or 1.48V SOHC (Single over-head camshaft) TDCi engine
- Full chrome surround
- Twin headlamps
- Front fog lamps
- Front map reading lights
- Glove box lamp
New two-wheeler launched in India by Guangzhou Motors
West Bengal cheif minister Mr. Buddhadeb bhattacharjee yesterday inaugurated the state’s first two-wheeler unit that targets the rural and semi-urban market. At full capacity the plant, owned by ‘Amar PC’ brand computer manufacturer Xenitis, would roll out 3.6 lakh motorbikes in three variants in technical tie-up with a Chinese state-owned company, Guangzhou Motors. The plant which is located about 60 KM from Kolkata. The company Managing Director was present at the inauguration.

Petrol, Diesel prices slashed (Feb 2007)
In a bid to contain the inflation rate, the Government has slashed petrol and diesel prices by Rs 2 and Re 1 a litre, respectively. Effective from Friday 16. The decision was taken at a meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, earlier in the day.
In Delhi, the retail price of petrol would come down to 42.85 from 44.85 and of diesel to Rs 30.25 from Rs 31.25. In Kolkata, the prices would be cut by Rs 2.08 and Rs 1.04, in Mumbai by Rs 2.13 and Rs 1.14 and in Chennai by Rs 2.16 and Rs 1.19.
But now the state-owned oil companies loss on sale of diesel would increase to Rs 2.30 from 1.30 a litre. The companies which were earning a profit of Rs. 2 a litre on petrol, would be seen.
